Exam Conflicts

This page contains information regarding what defines an exam conflict, as well as procedures to apply for a exam conflict accommodation.

Please note:?You?must?have a?Queen’s Student Photo ID Card?to gain entrance to an exam room.??YOU MUST BRING YOUR QUEEN'S STUDENT PHOTO ID TO ALL OF YOUR EXAMS.??Students writing an exam without a Queen's Student Photo ID will be assessed a fine of $50.00 per exam.

What is an Exam Conflict?

An Exam Conflict?is defined by a student's exam timetable containing any of the following:

  • two (2) exams at the same time;
  • an exam at the same time as a religious observance; or,
  • an exam in three (3) consecutive exam slots containing one 9:00 am, one 2:00 pm, and one 7:00 pm exam.
Examples of Consecutive Exam Slots

An exam slot?refers to the morning, afternoon or evening time of an exam sitting on exam day.

Examples of three (3) consecutive exam slots would be:

A) The morning (09:00), afternoon (14:00),?and evening (19:00) of the same day:

Exam Slot Day 1 Day 2
09:00 - 12:00 Exam 1 ?
14:00 - 17:00 Exam 2 ?
19:00 - 22:00 Exam 3 ?

B) The afternoon (14:00) and evening (19:00) of one day,?and the morning (09:00) of the next day:

Exam Slot Day 1 Day 2
09:00 - 12:00 ? Exam 3
14:00 - 17:00 Exam 1 ?
19:00 - 22:00 Exam 2 ?

C) The evening (19:00) of one day and the morning (09:00)?and afternoon (14:00) of the next day:

Exam Slot Day 1 Day 2
09:00 - 12:00 ? Exam 2
14:00 - 17:00 ? Exam 3
19:00 - 22:00 Exam 1 ?

* This applies to both 2 and 3 hour exam durations.

Religious Accommodations

Students requesting accommodation on the basis of Religious Observance must read the information contained in the following PDF. All requests for Religious Observance must be submitted to the Exams Office by the deadline date (see Deadlines to Apply below), and are authorized by the University Chaplain.

To request a Religious Observance exam accommodation, please complete the Exam Conflict Application found in the Making an Exam Conflict Application tab below. Students whose application has not been approved will be notified by email. Students whose application has been approved will receive an exam accommodation notice by email with the details of the accommodation.

Making an Exam Conflict Application

Individual arrangements are made for each student.

In order to make arrangements regarding an exam conflict, a student is required to complete an Exam Conflict Application and submit to the Exams Office by the firm deadline date (November 7, March 7, June 7).

Deadlines to Apply

The deadlines to apply for an official exam conflict are as follows:

  • November 7th for Fall (December) exams
  • March 7th for Winter (April) exams; and,
  • June 7th for Summer (June/July/August) exams
