Fine Art (Visual Art) Program

The Fine Art (Visual Art) Program offers a three year General BFA and a four year Honours BFA degree. This program provides a foundation in the visual arts that can lead to many different career choices such as professional artist, art educator, architect, curator, designer and more.

  • The Bachelor of Fine Art degree plans incorporate four interrelated areas of drawing, painting, printmedia, and sculpture and new media
  • Queen's Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) is a direct entry programme, which means  that students enter their major area of focus in their first year of study.
  • The BFA program develops student's expertise in traditional practices in a learning environment that encourages experimentation and invention.
  • All BFA courses are taught in dedicated studio spaces; students are able to keep theeir artwork in place for the duration of each course.
  • The Fine Arts program organizes an annual trip to a printmaking studio in North Adams, MA. Students are able to experience large scale print making from start to finish.
  • The program moved into Ontario Hall in 1976. Ontario Hall, built in the Victorian Romanesque style, dates from 1902.
  • The annual student exhibition each spring celebrates fourth yeaer honours artwork.

  • Students during a critque in scuplture. In scuplture, a variety of techniques are taught, from contemporary textile construction to traditional stone carving.
